The New Year is starting on the right foot for a kitchen worker at Carveth Care Centre.

18-year-old Hunter Cook is the home’s Employee of the Month for January 2022. He has worked at the long-term care home as a Dietary Aide for almost two years.

“This is my first job,” he says with a smile during his lunch break late last month. “That’s why this award is so amazing.”

Born and raised in Gananoque with three sisters and one brother, Hunter responds when asked about his job, “I love it. I love that I get to talk to the residents, and I like the people I work with.”

When he’s not at work cleaning and setting dining rooms, Hunter can usually be found hunting, fishing or skateboarding. He loves skating and his favourite time of year is Christmas.

Hunter is a graduate of Gananoque Secondary School. Asked to describe himself, he uses words such as respectful, caring and outgoing. He hopes the COVID-19 pandemic will end soon.

Speaking on behalf of the home, Food Service Nutrition Manager Theresa Running notes, “It has been a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and joy that Hunter brings to work. Hunter relates well with the elderly and can be overheard conversing with our residents in his kind and gentle manner. He is dedicated and has quickly become a great support to our team with his energy and bubbly personality. We hope he sets career goals and shoots for the stars.”
