New art program launched Featured
A new program at Helen Henderson Care Centre is helping residents with dementia through sensory based art.
Called Visions Through Art, the program was launched last week to the delight of residents on Reception Three, the home’s secure unit.
The program incorporates painting and tactile items such as butterflies as illustrated in these spring portraits.
The program will be repeated every month with a new theme. When enough artwork is made, residents will host an exhibit.
Organizers describe the program as inclusive, allowing residents with restrictions to participate.
“It’s important to have inclusion,” says Recreation Professional, Andrea Ruiz. “This will help maintain and restore fine motor skills and provide an outlook for expression. This artwork is a source of pride and accomplishment for the residents. It will personalize and beautify their home.”
