A front-line health care worker has been recognized for her good work helping residents in long-term care.

“I’m pretty excited it’s a nice accomplishment,” says Hollie Brennan, 41, about her workplace award as Employee of the Month for April 2022 at Carveth Care Centre. “It’s nice to have my work recognized.”

Born and raised in Gananoque across the street from Carveth, Hollie started working at the home last June as a Personal Support Worker (PSW).

“I love it; it’s great,” the Gananoque woman replies when asked about her job as a front-line health care worker. “I’m glad I came back to this field of work. I enjoy spending time with the residents. I like to learn about their lives.”

When she’s not at work, the proud mother of two grown boys can be found building an ensuite onto her house for her husband’s parents. She loves to spend time with her family and enjoys crocheting, reading, and hanging out with her dog, Scilla.

Asked to describe herself, she says she is quiet and shy until she gets to know people.

“I try to be caring and polite,” she adds softly.

Hollie sees herself retiring from the home and her job.

“I used to work in an office, but now that I’ve come back to PSW work, I’m happy and settled,” she confirms. “This is a good way to spend my last 30 years or so.”

Speaking on behalf of the home, Director of Care Shelley Bender notes, “Hollie made the right choice in returning to the PSW field.  Her calm demeanor and reassuring approach can make all the difference in someone’s day. She comes to every shift with a smile and a positive attitude. She is always ready to take on the day. Although Hollie is relatively new, she has already made a difference in our home. We are glad she left the office.”

Questions for Hollie

If you could rule the world, what would you do on day-one?

“I would change the rules towards mental health and make resources better available to everyone.”

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

“Maybe see the future… I worry about everything. If I could see into the future, it would be a lot better.”

If you weren’t at your current job, what would you be doing?

“I don’t know… I already did secretary and office work and I really wanted to come back to this. Maybe go to school to be a nurse.”

Carveth Care Centre is grateful for the good work of Hollie Brennan. To learn more about living or working here, please call 613-382-4752.
