Ashley Foley may be a new nurse at Carveth Care Centre, but she has already made a great first-impression.

Named Employee of the Month for July 2022, the 36-year-old Registered Practical Nurse smiles and notes, “It’s an honour to get it.”

An employee of the long-term care home for six months, Ashley left a job at the local hospital for a change and rest. She says she found both at her new job which provided a change of pace and different role.

“It’s like a family here,” Ashley explains about the health care team at Carveth. “It’s been more than I expected which is a pleasant surprise.”

Speaking on behalf of the home, Assistant Director of Care Lynn Vereecken notes, “Ashley is new, but does a great job and is friendly, helpful and cares about our residents.”

“I love being a nurse,” Ashley says quickly when asked about her work. “I love that it is challenging and rewarding. I’ve been a nurse for 13 years and I’ve worked in many fields of health care. I love that we can help people, even though it can be very draining.”

Originally from Napanee and currently a resident of Lansdowne, Ashley is married with two boys, ages 5 and 3. The family has two cats and lives beside the 1000 Islands Parkway.

“The most important thing in my life is my children. There’s no greater reward than being a parent,” she attests.

When she’s not at work, Ashely likes to spend time with her family and friends.

“I love to do makeup,” she says with a laugh.

Asked to describe herself, Ashley uses words such as dependable, loyal, helpful, loving, caring and hard working.

“I love to sing,” she says with a smile. “And I’m a good friend.”

Looking ahead, Ashley doesn’t know where she’ll be in five years because of the ongoing impact of the pandemic but hopes she and her family are healthy and happy.

“The pandemic changed our lives,” she explains. “Changing jobs was a good decision for me and my family.”
