Resident Spotlight

Residents, families and staff at Helen Henderson Care Centre are invited to enjoy an afternoon of music, memories and storytelling as John Storms takes the spotlight during the next Resident Spotlight presentation on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 2:30 pm in the Fireside Room.

John has called Helen Henderson Care Centre home since May and says he has quickly fallen in love with the community.

"I have been at Helen Henderson for four months and I love it here," said John. "I love the residents, the staff and all the bells and whistles that go with my new adventure here."

Music has been a lifelong passion for John, inspired by his father, who introduced him to performing and helped shape his musical journey.

"I learned music and entertaining from my Dad," he said. "He was a very big influence in my musical experiences and career as a guitar and banjo player."

For more than 30 years, John entertained audiences throughout the Picton and Kingston areas with his group, Sound of Storms. The band performed primarily in retirement homes, bringing familiar melodies and cherished memories to countless seniors.

While John enjoyed performing many songs over the years, one instrumental piece has always held a special place in his heart.

"My favourite was Sleep Walk," he said.

More than anything, John treasures the joy music brought to others.

"My special memories of playing were always making my audience happy by playing their favourite tunes and seeing their smiles that projected energy and enthusiasm," he recalled. "Sound of Storms left many memories in people's hearts."

As he reflects on a lifetime of performing, John hopes to inspire others who share a love of music.

"Never stop changing the world with musical noise," he said. "It makes the World go around happier."

Everyone is welcome to attend this special Resident Spotlight presentation and learn more about John's remarkable musical career, hear his stories from the stage and celebrate the lasting impact music has had on his life and the lives of so many others.
